3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Trekking

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda
Overview

The most direct route to one of the planet's rarest wildlife encounters: a single, focused gorilla trek in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Fly into the forest's edge, spend one full day tracking a habituated gorilla family through ancient montane rainforest, and fly back out β€” a compact itinerary for travellers with limited time who still want the complete experience.

Bwindi shelters roughly 459 of the world's approximately 1,063 remaining mountain gorillas across 19 habituated families. Three days is enough to trek once, rest, and absorb the forest properly β€” this itinerary is often added as a 3-night extension to a longer Kenya or Rwanda safari.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 3 days enough for gorilla trekking in Bwindi?

+

Yes, for a single trek. This itinerary is built around one full trekking day, with a travel day either side β€” it's the standard shape for travellers adding gorilla trekking onto a longer Kenya, Rwanda, or Tanzania safari rather than making Uganda the entire trip.

Do I fly or drive to Bwindi?

+

We route this itinerary by air β€” a scenic 1hr 20min flight rather than the 8–10 hour road transfer from Kampala. It costs more but gives you back a full extra day at the forest, which matters on a short trip like this one.

Can I do two gorilla treks instead of one?

+

Yes β€” extend to 4 nights and we'll add a second permit, either a repeat Bwindi trek in a different sector or a habituation permit (up to 4 hours with a family still being habituated). Let us know when you enquire and we'll rebuild the itinerary around it.

What fitness level do I need?

+

A reasonable level of general fitness β€” Bwindi's forest is steep and can be muddy, and treks vary unpredictably in length. Porters are available and recommended; they're a meaningful help on the climb and a direct source of income for the local community.
